You may be using Twitter for professional purposes or just to keep in touch with your geek friends, but there are always those times when you want to be entertained. Here is a list of some of the funniest people on Twitter that I have found so far (who are not professional comedians). Feel free to add to this list in the comments below.
1.) Warren Ellis @warrenellis
The British comic book writer who already writes in a Twitter-like format on his website makes some of the most entertaining 140-character remarks I have read in my short time on Twitter. Follow him for about 20 minutes and he may take you on a tour of his Myspace music favorites or philosophize about tweeting.

2.) Shaquille O’Neal @THE_REAL_SHAQ
The real Shaq delivers bite-size proverbs like no other. Otherwise, he shares his daily routine, such as receiving lots of peanut butta’ after games.
3.) Greg Grunberg @greggrunberg
The mind reading from cop from Heroes seeks out other Twitter celebs, but is far from a Twitter snob. Although he is currently only following 11, he replies to many of his 3000+ fans (he joined only recently). He also goes on to post pics of him, Suresh, and that guy in the horn-rimmed glasses.

4.) MC Hammer @MCHammer
Here is another Twitter celeb who is not afraid of replying to fans. Give MC Hammer, the man who refers to himself as “The Hammer”, the ability to communicate directly to fans with a few words and a click, the results are as expected.
5.) Wil Wheaton @wilw
Wheaton is not all that funny. What makes it entertaining to follow him is that he used to play the role of Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I would also suggest Merlin Mann aka
@hotdogsladies
His relentless stream of insightful non-sequiturs usually end up propelling something out my nose.
Cheers.
These guys are corpses compared to @fireland. So far he’s the only person on Twitter to make me laugh so much I spray cappuccino all over keyboard
I find the funniest people on Twitter aren’t celebrities but just ordinary people who say the oddest things and are not preoccupied with their public image.
I’m with Liz, Twitter tends to expose celebrities – especially when they write their own tweets.

If you like sports comments, my buddy and I started a sports twitter account to comment on the obsurdity that is sports news. Let us know your handle as well.
@SportsCentaur
we love sports and centaurs, pretty nice combo.
Most of what Warren Ellis says is not funny. The stuff that he says that is, is only comical to those with a crude, vulgar sense of humor.
I agree, ordinary people are the funniest.
